Gilligan keen to visit banglanews

LONDON: Three noted British journalists will leave for Dhaka on April 7 at the invitation of the Bangladeshi government.

They are—Daily Telegraph`s London Editor Andrew Gilligan, Guardian`s environment Editor John Vidal and freelance journalist on politics and defense Chris Blackburn.

Confirming the matter, press minister of Bangladesh high commission in London Rashed Chowdhury told banglanews, “A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the journos will leave for Dhaka on April 7.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Gilligan confirmed banglanews about his Dhaka visit. He also warmly received an invitation of banglanews Editor-in-Chief Alamgir Hossain for visiting banglanews office in Dhaka.

Regarding the invitation, he said, “Hopefully, the foreign ministry of Bangladesh will take necessary initiative in this regard.”


Besides, confirming the matter to banglanews, Chris Blackburn said, “Although I have visited the country earlier, I am again eagerly waiting for the moment.”

The journalists will attend a number of programmes during their visit, said sources.

They will attend a reception of external publicity department of foreign ministry on April 8 and watch a documentary film on Bangladesh on April 9.

Later, they will visit the foreign secretary and the foreign minister on the same day.

Besides, they are likely to visit the Liberation War and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on April 9 and International Mother Language Institute, central Shaheed Minar and Ahasan Manjil on April 10.

They are scheduled to leave for Chittagong on April 11 and return Dhaka on April 13.

On April 14, they will enjoy the Pohela Boishakh celebration and likely to visit some media houses in the evening.

On April 15, they will leave Dhaka for London.
