LONDON : A Bangladeshi origin dancer Akram Khan has been awarded Oliver Award 2012 for his extraordinary performance in a globally popular solo dance-drama “DESH” in London on Sunday.

Akram Khan is a familiar name in the world of western dance media.

However, he never forgets his origin and the Bangladeshi culture. He always tries to introduce the art and culture of his mother land to the world through his performance.

With the cooperation of Oscar-winning visual artist Tim Yip, he made the 80 minutes long solo dance drama “DESH. Earlier, different media and TV channels of Britain made program on him.

In 2010, Channel-4 broadcasted a documentary on him marking his achievement in the dancing world.

Besides, three universities gave him honorary doctorate degrees recognizing his creativity.

Akram Khan also received ‘Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)’ title from the queen of Britain.

Expressing feelings over the achievement, Akram’s father Mosharraf Khan told banglanews, “The Olivier Award is a well-deserved recognition of his work. We are very happy for that.”
