Gaffar Chowdhury’s wife dies

LONDON: Selima Afroz Chowdhury, wife of noted journalist and litterateur Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury died of brain hemorrhage at London University College Hospital on Tuesday night (London local time).

She was 71.

She left behind her husband, four daughters, one son and lots of well wishers to mourn her death.

Selima Afroz Chowdhury had come London for treatment in association of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. She got paralyzed on this year.

On December 12, she was admitted to hospital after a cardiac arrest. Later, she was kept on life support as her condition deteriorated due to brain hemorrhage.

On Tuesday, doctors took off her life support around 5:30pm and said she can die anytime.

Hearing the news, younger daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Rehana, visiting foreign minister Dipu Moni, Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and high commissioner in London Mijarul Quayes went to the hospital to see her.

Selima Afroz Chowdhury breathed her last at 10:50pm.

The body of Selima Afroz Chowdhury would be taken to Bangladesh on Saturday.
