UK court awards 9 men, including 6 Bangladeshis

LONDON: A British Court awarded nine people, including six Bangladeshis, with a total of 100 years jail on charge of planning militant attack in the United Kingdom.

Woolwich Crown Court of London passed the judgment after hearing the case.

The detained Abdul Malik Mia was awarded with 16 years and 10 months jail, Moksudur Rahman Chowdhury with 13 years, Abdul Mannan with 12 years, Shah Mohammad Lutfar Rahman with 12 years, Omar Latif (Pakistan) with 10 years and 4 months, Abul Basar Mohammad Shahjahan with 8 years and 10 months, Osman Khan and Nazam Hossain (Pakistan) with 8 years and Muhibur Rahman with 5 years jail.

They were accused of establishing militant training centre in Pakistan and planning for attacking in important establishments of the United Kingdom including London Stock Exchange, sources said.

Earlier, two of the nine accused were held while they were talking about Pipe Bomb on online magazine of Al-Qaeda.  The seven others were arrested later as per their given statement.

Tension mounted across England when the news was published saying probable militant attacks might be occurred in the country on Christmas Day in 2010.

Following the news, the parents of Bangladeshi youths staying in UK got frightened as six of the nine accused were Bangladeshis.
